The neighborhood associations in Monterey were started to address needs, and to that end each neighborhood has some input to the city on issue and on specific needs that may be accomplished through the Neighborhood and Community Improvement Program and dollars collected from the city’s transient occupancy tax.
Residents in Old Town also like to have fun, so in addition to issues and programs of importance, we do try to have social events or a program every quarter. Board meetings, generally quarterly, are often held at the MIIS conference room or recently by Zoom. Meetings are announced in bulletins to our members and/or in our newsletters, and are open to all members. We have our annual election in March where we elect the seven members of our board of Directors. The board of directors then elects our four officers: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary, and appoints committee chairs and liaisons.
