September 2, 2022 Events Bulletin

Friday, September 2, 12 pm – Kids Day at the Monterey County Fair – Kids under 12 free admission.  Carnival rides and rodeo cost $30 for all day wristband.    Rodeo is at 6 pm.  Advance tickets Adults $10, Seniors/Military $9.   Tickets include all concerts, including Nicol’s concert, magic, hypnosis, comedy, and racing pigs. 

Friday, September 2, 5-8 pm First Night Monterey at the Alvarado Street Mall, between Del Monte and Custom House Plaza.  Enjoy music, art, and specials by merchants the first Friday of each month through December.

Friday, September 2, 7-9 pm Monterey High School Digital Artists Opening at the Pacific Grove Art Center, 568 Lighthouse Ave.  Enjoy art by our local students as well as new exhibits by artists Melissa Ulrich, Denise Sanders and more.  Live music.  Free, but donations are greatly appreciated.

Saturday, September 3, Sunday, September 4, and Monday September 5.2022 , noon– Monterey County Fair Admission ranges from $5 for children 5-12 to $10 ($13 at the gate) for adults.    Concerts, magic, comedy and racing pigs contest are all part of the entertainment and included with paid admission. Friday, September 9 – Sunday, September 11, 2022 – Festa Italia! returns to the Custom House Plaza.  Free.   Friday 5-9 pm The Money Band. Saturday 11:30 Opening ceremonies at the plaza (no parade this year) and procession to Old Fisherman’s Wharf for the blessing of the fleet.  Music follows with Mike Marotta and Friends, Anthony Lane Band   Pasquale Esposito, and the 831 Allstar Band, who also perform on Sunday.   Sunday music starts at noon.  Bocce tournament Saturday and Sunday; artisan crafts and foods continual.  More info at www.festaitaliamonterey.org.

Saturday, September 10, 2022, 11-1 pm Monterey Public Library Meet and Greet with New Director of Library and Museums, Brian Edwards. 

Monday, September 12, 7-8  pm. – “My Life In Pacific Grove- the story of the life of Holman’s Department Store owners by Heather Lazare, at Casa Serano, 412 Pacific Street.  Presentation is provided through Native Daughters of the Golden West.  Refreshments following the presentation. $10 donation suggested.   RSVP to Wendy Brickman at 831-633-4444 or email brickman@brickmanmarketing.com.

Wednesday, October 12, 7 pm. Old Town Neighborhood Association Meeting via zoom.

Saturday, October 15, 10:30-noon – Old Town Neighborhood Bocce at the Plaza.   Join with other neighbors for a friendly game of bocce at the courts off Custom House Plaza.  All levels welcome.  Snacks and drinks provided by OTNA.  Free.  No RSVP needed-just come.

Thursday, October 20 – Candidates Forum at Monterey High School.  Hear from the candidates for city offices.  More details to follow.

Wednesday, November 2, 2022 – Save the Date- Membership Appreciation Evening at the Perry House.   Free celebration for adult paid members of OTNA.    Details to follow.

Warning-New Chalkless Parking Enforcement in Monterey- Monterey announced August 22 that they have implemented new chalkless parking enforcement, so no tire mark does NOT mean you haven’t been monitored by parking enforcement.  Read the full announcement here.     

Waterwise Gardens Wanted- The Historic Garden League is looking for waterwise gardens in Old Town to be part of a Garden Tour the end of September or early October, as a fundraiser for the maintenance of Casa de Oro and Cooper Molera Adobe gardens.  If interested, contact Donna Gibson at (607) 342-3647 or dmg6391@gmail.com

Monterey Free Trolley Daily Service Begins Saturday, June 25 through Monday, September 5, 10-6 pm.   The trolley departs from downtown to the aquarium at designated stops every 10 to 15 minutes.   Route information is at Monterey.org/parking. 

Monterey Museum of ArtNew summer exhibition of paintings and sculpture by Enrique Martinez Celaya and rarely seen photographs and handwritten poems by Robinson Jeffers, on view May 12 – October 9, 2022 (fee).

Undergrounding Committee Seeks Interested Residents -Our Old Town Neighborhood Undergrounding Committee is working jointly with interested residents of Monterey Vista and New Monterey Neighborhoods to work on a plan to underground utilities. Monterey County Theater AllianceThe Monterey County Theater Alliance has been providing us many interesting theatrical presentations over zoom.  For an ongoing schedule for these events, usually free and on zoom, visit admin@theatremonterey.org.    Free theatrical presentations on topics of local history will usually show also under events.    Thank you, MCTA, for offering us so many interesting topics during the covid time of sheltering in place!
