After a year-long study by a wireless sub-committee of citizens and members of the planning commission, their recommendation to include the language that where wireless facilities are built, “A 100-foot setback from schools and residences must be required and any relief granted from showing effective prohibition must be the least intrusive.” was omitted by City Council, subject to this final hearing. The subcommittee believes this additional sentence is important to strengthen the current wording in the council proposal, as it addresses proximity to homes, if the restriction against building cell facilities in a residential neighborhood is overturned by courts through appeal by wireless providers. Old Town Neighborhood Association president Gari Soulé also supports having this sentence in the ordinance, as without it, there would be NO setbacks to residences and schools if the court should later rule against restriction by residential zoning. The issue is expected to be decided at this meeting, so if you have an opinion, now is the time to make yourself heard.

This class not only prepares you to help your family plan for emergencies, it teaches basic safety lessons and structure if you want to help the Community Emergency Response Teams when they help search for lost vulnerable adults and children, help set up firefighter rehabilitation centers, or help keep the public safe during emergencies, which frees up first responders to do their important work.
