Don’t Forget the Community Meeting on the Affordable Housing Project tomorrow night plus Old Town Plays Bocce on Saturday.  See you there!

Wednesday, April 12, 6 pm – Community Meeting on the Affordable Housing Project proposed by Mid-Pen Housing for Van Buren and Madison.   Held at the Mid-Pen Senior Project, 669 Van Buren.  This is your opportunity for an advance look at plans and to give valuable feedback in the early stages.   

Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15, 7:30 pm Celebrate the Cherry Blossom Festival at the Stanton Center with a live performance of Taiko Drumming.  Tickets are $10 child /$20 adult and help support Monterey History and Art.   Doors open at 7 pm.

Saturday, April 15, 10:30 am Bocce by the Bay – Join neighbors from Old Town in this friendly game at the bocce courts off Custom House Plaza.   We’ll bring some snacks and equipment.   Just come for a lot of fun and camaraderie.   No experience required. Free.  No RSVP needed.   Flyer attached. 

Saturday, April 15, 2023- “Plein Air in Old Monterey”- See plein air artists painting at historic adobes and gardens throughout the day.  Map available at Monterey Museum of Art, the Stanton Center, and at homes open for Jo Mora Day.   Exhibition and sale of their work will be held 3-4 pm at Elkins Park on Calle Principal, next to the museum.   

Saturday, April 15, 10-4 pm Jo Mora Day – Free walking tours and driving guides to see art work by Jo Mora, famous muralist, cartographer, and sculptor whose work is on display at Casa Serrano (412 Pacific St), Mayo Hayes O’Donnell Library (155 Van Buren), Doud House (177 Van Buren), Stanton Center (Custom House Plaza) and the Pacific House (Custom House Plaza), as well as other locations on the peninsula.  Stop by these locations for more information, sponsored by Monterey History and Art Association.

Saturday, April 15, 2023 12-4 pm – Monterey Museum of Art Block Party.  A free event for the family involving creating art at MMA at 559 Pacific Street.   In addition, an evening dance party for adults over 21 costs $25 and helps raise funds for the museum.

Thursday, April 20, 7-9:15 pm “Bach Goes to Town-Jazz Interpretations of Bach” at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies Irvine Auditorium, McCone Building, 499 Pierce St.  A discussion and performance by Monterey Jazz Festival Regional All-Star Ensemble, members of the Monterey Symphony and Youth Symphony Salinas Faculty.   Free to the public but must register, subject to space availability.   More info at: https://montereyjazzfestival.org/education/program/bach-to-bop/.

Saturday, April 22, 2-4 pm – “CSUMB President Vanya Quinones Presents Plans for Growth” at Monterey Public Library Community Room, sponsored by American Association of University Women.  Free and open to the public.

Saturday, May 5, 2023, 10-2 pm  Meet the Artist Maria Poroy at Venture Gallery, Portola Hotel, 260 Alvarado Street.  Old Town’s own Maria Poroy will display and discuss her vividly colored art as May’s featured artist.  Come visit her on May 5 and May 20.  Her art is on display May 1-31.
