Saturday, August 5, 10-12 noon. FREE Wharf Walk with historian Tim Thomas. The walk will focus on Abalone and the Japanese Fishermen of the Monterey Bay. Saturday, August 5, 3-6 pm – Reception of new artists at Venture Gallery at the Portola Hotel. See the new exhibits and meet Craig Lauterbach (wood scuptures), Sarah Leonard (Coastal oil paintings), and Dee Steiner (romantic oil paintings of park, trails and sunsets in impressionistic style) at this artist reception. The show runs August 1-31. Free.

Besides the elegant Concours d’Elegance on August 20 and the many private clubs, auctions, and events, there are also many free events, some within walking distance of Old Town:
Friday, August 11, 5-7 pm – Monterey Kick-Off Cruise in of Historic Racing Cars are on exhibit in the 300 block of Alvarado Street (Del Monte corner) in Monterey at this free event. There is also a Driver’s Reception at Cibo’s Restaurant open to the public from 5-7 pm with complimentary appetizers and live jazz starting at 5:30.
Wednesday, August 16, 12-5 pm – Little Car Show in downtown Pacific Grove on Lighthouse Avenue. View 100 miniature cars with parade and tour around the coastline starting at 5 pm. Free event.
Thursday, August 17, 7 am- 12 noon- Tours d’Elegance -Catch a glimpse of cars that will compete in the Concours d’Elegance as they tour from Pebble Beach around the peninsula and return to Pebble Beach.
Thursday, August 17, 11am-4 pm – Prancing Ponies- on Ocean Avenue in Carmel. See women-owned exotic, classic, muscle, sports, and electric cars at this free event. Fashion show featuring local models and designers. Awards for best presentation at 4 pm.
Friday, August 18, 12 noon – 6 pm- Pacific Grove Rotary Councours Auto Rally- View vintage cars on display at Lighthouse and Forest in downtown Pacific Grove. Best in class will be awarded at 4 pm. Parade of the cars and rally begin at 5 pm, with cars touring the shoreline from Lovers Point to Asilomar and returning at 6 pm. Free.
Saturday, August 19, 1-6 pm – Exotics on Broadway (formerly at Cannery Row) – View super, hyper and exotic cars at this free event on General Jim Moore Boulevard between Broadway and San Pablo Ave in Seaside.
Saturday, August 19, 8 am -1:30 pm Concours d’Lemons – See the ugly rust buckets and misfits of the car world at this hilarious free event at Seaside City Hall, 440 Hartcourt Avenue in Seaside. Thrift store trophies will be awarded for worst in class, with judges openly available for bribes.
