NCIP Survey and Roundtable Discussion

Very important decisions will soon be made that affect residents. The Neighborhood and Community Improvement Program will vote in early June on which programs to support using the Transient Occupancy Tax. Our NCIP representative, Susan Ricketson, has asked for input from you, the residents, and we encourage you to fill out the survey below as well as attend a Roundtable Discussion next Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 7 pm to discuss the results of the survey on these important proposals.

The special Old Town NCIP Roundtable will be held in the Community Room of the McCone Building, 499 Pierce Street at the corner of Jefferson Wednesday, May 29 at 7 pm.  We hope you will join us to discuss your priorities. Cookies will be provided. See the newsletter for the Zoom link if you want to join remotely.

Projects listed below are the projects felt to be most important by the Old Town Neighborhood Board, and does not include all projects, nor their full description. There are three projects that discuss the same topics with differing proposals. We have tried to show differences in these cases, marked with asterisks(*). You can see a more complete list and slightly longer descriptions in this document. Discussion of the differences are noted below the survey list.

*Undergrounding Utilities proposals MN-04 and MN-06 both address under-grounding utilities. MN06 has been endorsed by the Old Town Neighborhood Association. Unlike the very similar city submission, the project includes priority to escape routes like Del Monte Ave corridor (site of the 2023 protracted outage) with excess to help Fremont St whereas MN04 directs funding to the Fremont St. under-grounding plus pays for a staff person. Negotiations continue toward consolidating 04 and 06.

**Hilltop Community Center – NM12 was submitted by Parks & Recreation) and NM08 by New Monterey) and is the neighborhood’s first priority. Both share the same goal – a major overhaul of this neglected facility. Recognizing the enormity of the task, NM12 addresses the basic structure – seismic reinforcement, roof and foundation before updating the interior. In the event of an emergency, Hilltop could very easily act as an evacuation shelter.

***Pickleball Projects – RR-01 construction of courts at Ryan Ranch (city-owned parcel near the frisbee golf course), and DT-12 that would convert two tennis courts to 8 pickleball courts at the downtown tennis center Also, for separate consideration, DT-13 will add lights and fencing, repair the courts and design and build a more modern clubhouse.
