Saturday, October 12, 10 am – Kim Talks at Oscar’s Playground, 685 Cannery Row on the third floor. Come talk with our district 1 representative on City Council, Dr. Kim Barber, and discuss issues of importance to you.
Sunday, October 13, 2024, 12:00 and 2:30- Historical Reenactment of the California Constitutional Convention of 1849 at Colton Hall, where it all happened. See the participants (in costumes!) debate the issues. Seats are limited, and you must register at Monterey.gov/museums.
Sunday, October 13, 1-5 pm – Celebrate the 179th Birthday of Old Fisherman’s Wharf with live music from the Money Band, photo ops with a Stormtrooper and more. Free Candy Crawl for the first 179 kids by collecting a piece of candy at each of the three candy stores on the wharf. Get a piece of wharf-themed cake with Dave Marzetti, master of ceremonies, at 3:30pm in front of Abalonetti’s. Meet and greet Monterey police and fire men and women from 1-4 pm.
Thursday, October 17, 7-8:30 pm – Election Forum for Candidates for Monterey Peninsula Water Management District Director, Division 3 at New Monterey Hilltop Community Center, 871 Jessie St (Parking available on Divisidero Street). The forum will be conducted by the League of Women Voters. Old Town is in this Division.
Saturday, October 19, 10:30-noon – Bocce! Fall is here and so is the annual OTNA bocce game! On Saturday, October 19 we will be playing bocce at the courts at Custom House Plaza. No experience is necessary; we welcome all playing levels. OTNA will provide equipment as well as soft drinks and light snacks. Bring your morning coffee and join us for a fun morning of fresh air, bocce and friendly conversation with your neighbors. You will find we mean it when we say no experience necessary. Easy rules will be explained, so just enjoy!
Thursday, October 31, 2024, 4-7 pm – Halloween on the Wharf & Costume Contest – Come to Old Fisherman’s Wharf in costume and trick or treat at participating merchants as you listen to spooky music DJ’d by Dave Marzetti and take photos with the Halloween décor. At 5 pm, register to participate in the costume contest in front of Rockfish Harbor Grill. At 7 pm, participants of the costume contest can be viewed on stage from seats in front of Rockfish Harbor Grill with cash prizes awarded by age categories of under 8, 9-21, 22 and older, and groups. Wednesday, November 6, 2024, 6-8 pm – Old Town’s Neighborhood Association’s Annual Member Appreciation Party at the Perry House. This beautiful home has decks overlooking the bay, and a welcoming lawn, carriage house, and fire pit for this catered event. Make new friends as you enjoy great food, wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages, free to members paid for 2024. We are now accepting reservations from paid members. RSVP to our social chairperson, Phyllis Bussey, at philbussey2@gmail.com. Let her know also if you are willing to help at check-in for a short 30-minute shift. Volunteering is a great way to meet your neighbors. This party is limited to 100 members, and fills up fast, so please RSVP as soon as possible. The Perry House is at 201 Van Buren Street, on the corner of Van Buren and Scott.

Second Saturdays, 9-10 and 10:30-11:30 am- Tours of Ed Ricketts Pacific Biological Laboratory subject to availability. “Doc Ricketts” was featured prominently in John Steinbeck’s novels about Cannery Row, and the lab at 600 Cannery Row was the site where the idea of a Monterey Jazz festival was born. Tours are free, but limited in size. You are also welcome to drop by without a reservation to self-tour this historic site from 12-4 pm on the second Saturday.
Casa Serano, the historic adobe at 412 Pacific Street, is now open for free visits on Saturday and Sunday 2-4 pm. Docents can help you learn the interesting history of this adobe built in 1843, as you peruse the art and furnishings.

COMMUNITY GROUPS AND CLUBS
Are you interested in finding others with your interests? Below are some of the other local organizations that welcome new members:
American Association of University Women – This national organization promotes equity for women in the workplace and in education. In addition to supporting education through scholarships, they have book clubs, social events, monthly speakers, a Romancing the Coast monthly adventure, a hiking/walking group, and other interesting events. Monterey Civic Club – Founded in 1906, the club owns and meets monthly at the House of the Four Winds, located at 540 Calle Principal. This beautiful and historic adobe is believed to be the oldest women’s clubhouse in continuous use in the United States. Members meet the first Tuesday of each month for lunch and a social program ($20), often with a speaker of importance to members. Contact (831) 747-1072 for more information.
Gentrain Society is an organization for life-long learners. They generally meet the first and third Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30 at the Monterey Peninsula College Lecture Forum #103. Lectures are free and open to the public (except $3.00 parking fee). Topics range from drama, history, and understanding civilizations and more.
