Please pay special attention to the Planning Commission Meeting on September 13, mark your calendars for the Candidates Forum on October 6, and note the announcement of the new chalk-less parking enforcement now in effect.

Friday, September 9 – Sunday, September 11, 2022 – Festa Italia! returns to the Custom House Plaza.  Free.   Friday 5-9 pm The Money Band. Saturday 10 am- Opening ceremonies and procession to Old Fisherman’s Wharf for the blessing of the fleet. 11:30am-9 pm -Music begins with Pasquale Esposito, and continues with Anthony Lane Band, Singers Erasmo Aiello and Dave Marzetti accompanied by Mike Marotta Jr, Dennis Murphy, Dave Dally, Paul Tarantino and Skylar Campbell; Tarantella Dancers, Anthony Lane Band 5-7 pm, Chicano All Stars 7 pm – 9 pm.  Sunday music starts at noon.  Bocce tournament Saturday and Sunday; artisan crafts and foods continual.  More info at www.festaitaliamonterey.org.  

Monday, September 12, 7-8  pm. – “My Life In Pacific Grove- the story of the life of Holman’s Department Store owners by Heather Lazare, at Casa Serano, 412 Pacific Street.  Presentation is provided through Native Daughters of the Golden West.  Refreshments following the presentation. $10 donation suggested.   RSVP to Wendy Brickman at 831-633-4444 or email brickman@brickmanmarketing.com.

Friday, September 23-Sunday, September 25, 11 am -7 pm Monterey Greek Festival -at Custom House Plaza. Enjoy Greek food, dancing, and fun.  Free admission.

Thursday, October 6, 7-8:45 pm Candidates Forum for city offices, to be held at Monterey High School Science Center, Room 20.  Hear from the mayoral and council candidates.   You can send questions to forward to committee, or ask at the meeting.  Tyller Williamson and Dan Albert Jr are running for mayor.  Kim Barber is running to be the City Council representative for our district 1.  Ed Smith is running for District 2. 

Wednesday, October 12, 7 pm. Old Town Neighborhood Association Meeting via zoom.  

Saturday, October 15, 10:30-noon – Old Town Neighborhood Bocce at the Plaza.   Join with other neighbors for a friendly game of bocce at the courts off Custom House Plaza.  All levels welcome.  Snacks and drinks provided by OTNA.  Free.  No RSVP needed-just come.

Wednesday, November 2, 2022 – Save the Date- Membership Appreciation Evening at the Perry House.   Free celebration for adult paid members of OTNA.    Details to follow.

Warning-New Chalkless Parking Enforcement in Monterey- Monterey announced August 22 that they have implemented new chalkless parking enforcement, so no tire mark does NOT mean you haven’t been monitored by parking enforcement.  Don’t get caught with an unexpected parking ticket!  Read the full announcement here.     

Welcome Max Troyer to the Old Town Neighborhood Association Board of Directors.  The board of OTNA appointed Max Troyer to take over the vacancy caused by the death of Robert Grimes.   Max has been an active participant at board meetings and is our Website Coordinator.  Welcome Max!

Monterey Free Trolley service has discontinued as of Labor Day until next summer.

Monterey Museum of ArtNew summer exhibition of paintings and sculpture by Enrique Martinez Celaya and rarely seen photographs and handwritten poems by Robinson Jeffers, on view May 12 – October 9, 2022 (fee).

Undergrounding Committee Seeks Interested Residents -Our Old Town Neighborhood Undergrounding Committee is working jointly with interested residents of Monterey Vista and New Monterey Neighborhoods to work on a plan to underground utilities. Monterey County Theater AllianceThe Monterey County Theater Alliance has been providing us many interesting theatrical presentations over zoom.  For an ongoing schedule for these events, usually free and on zoom, visit admin@theatremonterey.org.    Free theatrical presentations on topics of local history will usually show also under events.    Thank you, MCTA, for offering us so many interesting topics during the covid time of sheltering in place!
