 Tuesday, August 29, 6:30 pm $2 Tuesday Classic Movie Night at the Stanton Center auditorium, Custom House Plaza, sponsored by Monterey History and Art.  See Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant star in “Charade”. 

Thursday, August 31, noon to 11 pm.  Monterey County Fair Free Preview Day for Veterans and Seniors 62+.   More info at https://montereyfair.com.

Thursday, August 31, 4-5 pm.  History of Pt Pinos Lighthouse” presented by Tim Thomas through the Monterey Public Library on Zoom.  Free, but you must register at https://montereypl.libcal.com/event/11105424 to receive link two hours prior to the presentation.

Friday, September 1-Sunday, September 4, noon to 11 pm- Monterey County Fair. Tickets prepaid by August 30 are $12 for Adults, $10 for Seniors, $6 for Children 6-12.   Rodeo Friday Adults $10, Children 6-12 $5.  Under 6 are free.  Purchase tickets and get more information at https://montereyfair.com.  

Friday, September 1, 7-9 pm – Gallery Opening and Reception at Pacific Grove Art Center, 568 Lighthouse Ave, Pacific Grove.   Enjoy keyboard and vocal music by Glenn Leon Guerro as you see the four new exhibits:  Monterey Bay Plein Air Painters Association Membership Show in the Gill Gallery; Gordon Mortensen “Conversations with Chaos” in the Dyke Gallery, Stacey Gregory’s “End Game” in the Annand Gallery, Donald Kellogg’s “Winter Light” in the Boyer Gallery, and our own Monterey High School’s “Fantastic Worlds of Today’s Teen Artists” in the small halls.  Free.

Saturday, September 2, 10-12 noon.  FREE Wharf Walk with historian Tim Thomas.  Tim will discuss the cultural history of the Monterey Wharf and waterfront.  Free, but reservations required by calling Tim Thomas at 831-521-3304 or via emai at timsardine@yahoo.com.  Ages 10-adult, limited to first 15 people.  

Friday, Sept 8, 3-9 pm, Saturday, Sept 9, 10-9 pm, and Sunday, Sept 10, 10-6 pm.- 90th Festa Italia Celebration at Custom House Plaza.  Enjoy Italian music, dancing by the Tarantala dancers, bocce tournament, great Italian food, and craft vendors at this colorful free festival.  Friday’s dancing starts with the Money Band Friday evening from 6-9 pm.  Don’t miss the Blessing of the Fleet and the Walk on the wharf on Saturday morning beginning at 10 am.  This year there will also be a FREE cioppino cooking demonstration by award-winning chef Tene Shake Saturday at 1 pm in front of the Grotto/Foor Market Kokomos on the wharf.  Free copies of the recipe will be available.  Other entertainers include the Mike Marotta Band, Anna Marotta Halim, Anthony Lane Band and Pasquale Esposito.   For a full schedule, visit festaitaliamonterey.org.

Saturday, September 16, 8 am-2pm – Annual Sandcastle Building contest at Carmel Beach between  10th and 12th Avenue.  Building at 8 am; Judging at 12 noon.  Free.  The theme this year is “Time Travel Into the Future”.  Everyone who would like to build a castle can enter the contest by coming to the registration booth across from 11th Avenue on the beach, and judges bestow awards for multiple categories, from the coveted Golden Shovel to the tongue-in cheek Sour Grapes.  Because bribery (non-monetary) is encouraged, it’s not unusual to see platters of food, bottles of wine, chair massages and other indulgences being offered to the people in charge.  For more information call Carmel Community Services at (831) 620-2020.

Friday, September 22-Sunday, September 24 – Greek Festival at the Custom House Plaza.  Enjoy Greek music, food, and culture at this free festival.

November 1, 2023 -Old Town Neighborhood Association Annual Member Appreciation Evening at the Perry House.   Save the date for our annual fabulous party at the Perry House for members of Old Town Neighborhood Association.  Enjoy an evening of great food, wine, beer and other beverages at this lovely historical home overlooking the harbor.  If you are not a member yet, please see the bottom of this bulletin.  More information to follow as event gets closer.   Opening of reservations will be available later for paid members with announcement in a future bulletin.
