URGENT NEED:  Christmas in the Adobes volunteers are needed at Colton Hall Friday and Saturday nights, December 8 and 9th. Thursday, November 30, 6 pm. “Kim Talks”- at Oscar’s Playground, 685 Cannery Row, third floor.  Bring your thoughts and issues to discuss with Dr. Kim Barber, City Councilwoman for our district one.   Her guest will be Kate Daniels, Monterey County Planning Commissioner running for District 5 seat on the County Board of Supervisors. 

Thursday, November 30, 6-8 pm Parade of Lights in downtown Pacific Grove.  See local floats and hear holiday music at this annual event.

Friday, December 1, 5-6 pm – Monterey Holiday Tree Lighting at the Colton Hall lawn.  Enjoy cookies, cider, live music and caroling along with the lighting of our city tree. 

Friday, December 1, 5-8 pm – First Friday Iluminado Celebration at the Monterey Museum of Art,

Free admission to the museum all month, as their gift to the community.  Experience the artist-commissioned trees that evolve with every visitor’s contribution.   The exhibit will continue Thurs-Sunday, 11-5, through December 22.  

Saturday, December 2, 10-noon – Free Wharf Walk.  This walking tour of the wharf will discuss “The History of Abalone in Monterey” with Marine Historian Tim Thomas.   Advance reservations are required by calling Tim Thomas at (831) 521-3304 or via email timsardine@yahoo.com. The tour is for ages 10-adult only, with no more than 15 people.  Tours start near the pink Harbor House on Fisherman’s Wharf. 

Saturday, December 2, 11 am Free Family Fun Day at the Monterey Museum of Art.  Make art and experience the exhibit.

Saturday, December 2, 1 pm Santa arrives at the Wharf, disembarking from a Princess Monterey Whale Watching boat, and then will be on site at his Santa House near the Crab House with his elves from 1:15-5 pm.  A free candy cane will be given to the first 100 visitors to see Santa that day.  Santa will return on weekends on December 8-23.   Santa visits are free and provide great photo ops.  See announcements.

Saturday, December 2, 2023, 2-4 pm. Holiday Reception at Venture Gallery- Enjoy wine and snacks as you browse the art from 30 local artists.  No RSVP required.

Sunday, December 3, 5:15-7pm – Holiday Lighted Boat Parade –  Enjoy seeing the parade of festively decorated boats as they leave from the harbor and slowly move toward the aquarium and back at this traditional holiday event.  Many of our restaurants are great viewing spots!

Wednesday, December 5, 2023  5-7 pm – Christmas at the Inns – See the nine of the bed and breakfast  inns of Pacific Grove at their holiday finest.  Limited number of tickets $25 each.  Purchase at Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce, 584 Central Avenue (831-373-3304) or online at https://whatsupmonterey.com/events/holiday-events/christmas-at-the-inns/373.

Friday, December 8 and Saturday, December 9, 10-4pm Holiday Book Sale at the Monterey Public Library.  Purchase gently used books at the sale which supports our library.

Friday December 8 and Saturday, December 9, 5-9 pm – Christmas in the Adobes.Visit our historic adobes open and decorated for the holidays. Enjoy music and a wide variety of entertainment at these cherished homes and buildings.   The newly renovated First Theater will be included for the first time in many years.  Tickets may be purchased either online at www.mshpa.org or at the Pacific House at Custom House plaza.  Adults 18 and over $25/$30 after Nov 1 for one night; $45 for both nights.  Children under 18 are free.

Saturday, December 16, 2023, 11-2 pm – Winter Art Market at the Monterey Museum of Art.  Free admission to the public the entire month of December.

Sunday, December 17, 3:00 Free Monterey Pops! Holiday Concert at Carmel High School Performing Arts Center.  Seating opens at 2:30 for this free concert.

Friday, Dec 22, 2023, 5:30-7:30 pm – Winter Solstice Celebration at the Monterey Museum of Art.

Sunday, December 31, 3pm-Midnight – First Night Monterey– Join in the family-friendly celebration with over 50 performances, featuring dance, jazz, celtic, marimba, folk, and rock music at Golden State Theater, Conference Center, and other venues.   The music in the street is free, as are the art and events of Kids night out on the Colton Hall Lawn.  For access to the venues for special performances, a button must be purchased.  Early bird buttons purchased by 8 pm on December 10: Adults: $25, Kids 6-15: $15; Family of 2 adults+2 children: $75.  After 8 pm on December 10, prices are $32 for adults, $20 for children 6-15, $104 for family of 2 adults plus 2 children.  See firstnightmonterey.org to purchase buttons or for more information on performers and venues.    FREE buttons are earned with four volunteer hours.  See Announcements below.

Christmas on the Wharf– Enjoy the majestic tree, Santa’s cottage, holiday decorations and photo ops, plus musical and dance performances at various times four weekends in December:  Fridays, December 1, 8, 15, 22 from 5pm to 9 pm; Saturdays December 2, 9, 16, 23 11 am-9 pm; Sundays, December 3, 10, 17 from 1-8 pm.   Join in Community Caroling, coordinated by members of His Grace Ministries International Church, from 5-6:30 on these Sundays.   See schedule at https://www.montereywharf.com/event/christmas-on-the-wharf-2022/633.html

Christmas on Cannery Row On weekends beginning November 25th through December 18th, families can visit and take photos with Santa Claus in Steinbeck Plaza, Cannery Row.   Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 to 3:00 pm.

Free Parking at Cannery Row Garage after 4 pm. – Locals park free after 4 pm, with a valid ID, every day at the Cannery Row Garage (601 Foam St. between Hoffman/Prescott.

Volunteers Needed for First Night Monterey!  If you can help with four hours at set-up, clean up, various assignments, you will earn a FREE First Night Button to enjoy the additional five hours.  Contact firstnightmonterey.org to volunteer.   

Venture Gallery Featured November Artist – Meet Cheryl Kampe on November 22 and 24, 2-6 pm.   Exhibit of her textiles runs through November. 

Ice Skating by the Bay at Custom House Plaza opens November 24 through December 31.  Adults $15; Children 12 and under $13.  Skate rental $5.00.
