Special Bulletin on Parking Program

Old Town Special Bulletin – Parking Program Deadline Extended

The City of Monterey is seeking to eliminate your preferential residential parking zone in

the Old Town Neighborhood unless enough residents register at the link below to

preserve it.

Preferential residential parking grants residents the right to park for 72 hours, and limits

non-residents to 1 hour of parking at a time. Eliminating these parking zones would

mean that tourists and adjacent uses such as business districts and schools would be

able to use our neighborhood as parking with no time restrictions beyond a 72 hour

limit. This would significantly impact parking along our streets.

Preserving the preferential residential parking zone is especially important to the

disabled, the elderly, the mobility-limited and those who may have difficulty walking long

distances to get to and from their vehicles. If the preferential residential parking zone is

eliminated, these neighbors will have a particularly hard time making multiple long trips

to and from their vehicles to get groceries or run errands.

In order to preserve your preferential residential parking permit zone you must

register at the link below by April 20. 51% of all the residents (not just 51% of those responding) on four contiguous blocks must register to essentially vote to retain the residential parking zone. For multi-unit housing, each unit has one vote to respond and be counted in the required percentage.

Registration is free and does not require a permit purchase. Residents can

register at: https://monterey.getapermit.net.

The city will hold a special meeting for Old Town residents at City Council

Chambers on Monday, April 6, at 6 pm.  A flyer about the meeting is attached.
